Happily, it includes suggestions for drawing with Photoshop in addition to working with photographs. The book includes both the basics and advanced skills. Normally I don't really care about bonus online content, but when I registered my book at the Que on Demand website and downloaded the free workshop file (67+ MB), I was delighted to discover that it includes steps and files for seven projects, three of which dealt with techniques I've needed to know just in the last few weeks but had no idea how to begin. I feel like this book will help me build expertise and understanding of how to use this massively complex program, and then I can either search on the web or buy more in-depth books as I am ready for them. The book does not go into details, but details is precisely what I did not want I was bewildered by too many details. When digging in a little deeper, you can just read the steps in order, imagining yourself doing them in the program but for hands-on learners, nothing beats actually doing it on your computer. This sorting process makes comparing the tools within a category far easier and more conceptual.ДЇor each tool, in addition to the summary, there are sequentially numbered steps with those numbers tagged to screen representations. It's like all the different colors of confetti have been sorted into different jars of like colors, so Photoshop is less bewilderingly in my face. These summaries are great for flipping through the book quickly to get an overview of what's under the hood, and they helped me see what I need to focus on first to accomplish the kinds of work I want to accomplish. First, the tools are discussed in relational categories (e.g., the different selection tools and how they are used) with a short summary paragraph at the top of the page for each tool telling how it can be used. I have the Adobe Creative Suite 5 (version 12 of Photoshop), and I've found this book to be most instructive. I open it with great trepidation! The fact that some of the short-cut keys I habitually use in Illustrator do completely different things in PhotoShop is also a constant source of aggravation. Every time I've opened it, I've felt like somebody threw a handful of confetti in my face.
